The way that art and culture is expressed here is quite timeless and diverse; you'll see great expressions of American history by way of antiques, textiles and more. The artists whose work is showcased in art venues here also span a wide range from American Indian artists to female artists.

Washington, D.C., Arts and Culture

There are dozens of great places for arts here. The National Gallery of Art ranks high on the list with a collection that dates back to the 13th Century. Here, you can see a painting by Leonardo da Vinci and a vast range of sculptures and art in other mediums.

Other top spots for great art and culture include the American Indian Museum, the American Art Museum and the African Art Museum. However, this list is just scratching the surface. The Smithsonian museums alone hold a massive collection dedicated to arts and culture that would take you weeks and weeks to view in its entirety.

Theater here is diverse just like everything else in this exciting city. You’ll find musicals to dramas produced by first-timers. The Washington Opera is the place to go for opera, and the District of Columbia also has a ballet company. The Cyrus and Myrtle Katzen Arts Center offers visitors a wide range of live performances, as well. The Katzen Arts Center also has a collection of art with works by Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.
