Event Details

An HBO Vice Impact production following Afghanistan's first female mountaineering team as they attempt their first ascent of a previously unclimbed peak in stunning Panjshir province, conquer the complext social boundaries of being a young woman in Kabul, and return home victoriously.

Following the film, there will be a panel discussion about the current realities of life for women in Afghanistan. Our panelists will include:

  • Noorjahan Akbar is a human rights advocate from Afghanistan. She currently runs Free Women Writers, a collective of Afghan women activists and writers.

  • Freshta Ibrahimi joined as Ascend's project coordinator in July 2015. She works with women on behalf of women – since joining Ascend she has begun teaching yoga to others and has become a fixture in the activist community in Kabul.

  • Hodei Sultan is a Senior Program Manager with the United States Institute of Peace supporting initiatives on men, women, peace and security in Afghanistan.

Watch the film and meet the Ascend team in person and by video link for a Q&A afterward.

This event has free on-campus parking.

This event is a fundraiser for Ascend: Leadership Through Athletics, a 501(c)3. A generous donor is underwriting the costs of screening the film, so 100% of your ticket price will go to the program in Afghanistan.
