Event Details

Peepshow takes-back objectification and sexism, widens the feminist frame, and kicks the patriarchy where it counts. Over the span of Peepshow’s five spectacles, performers will review the history of feminism in the wrestling ring, explore the complexities of the male gaze through Broadway show tunes, and expose the modern woman’s complicity in her own oppression through a synchronized-swimming-inspired-ballet.

Peepshow is a theatrical exhibition created and presented by an entirely non-male identified collective of artists, and 100% accessible to Deaf and hearing audience members. Recommended for 18yo+. Part of the Women's Voices Theater Festival. #WomensVoicesFest

Peepshow is supported in part by a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets are non-refundable. They cannot be converted into donations. Exchanges can be requested starting 48-hours before a performance; we for sure cannot fulfill requests made less than 90-minutes before a performance. If we are able to honor a request, a $10/ticket fee will be added.

Is this event participatory?

Yes and no. dog & pony dc believes the audience completes our ensemble. Our shows are created with you live in the room every night. But that's what all theatre is--live, ephemeral performance happen in real time. Peepshow has interactive elements, but no audience member will ever be made to do or say anything. There will be invitations but there will be no expectations.

Is this event interpreted?

This event features Deaf and hearing talent. The event itself will be accessible to hearing, Deaf, and Hard of Hearing attendees. The event will alternate between captioning and signing. Some parts of the event will be gestural or movement-based. ASL interpreters will be at the box office.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Peepshow is strongly recommended for persons 18yo+. While an ID is not required, dog & pony dc reserves the right to turn anyone away we feel is too young for the content of this show. Please see content advisory.

Take the Green/Yellow line to Archives Navy Memorial or Green/Yellow or Red to Gallery Place-Chinatown (Arena exit). Nearby buslines include 70, 79, X2, Circulator. There are also a number of Capital Bikeshare docking stations and Zipcar spots in the area. There is metered parking using Parkmobile Monday-Saturday; meters are not in effect on Sundays. There is a parking lot directly across the street from Woolly Mammoth.

Can you tell me what to expect?

We started creating this event from the premize that part of the definition of being a women is that we are always on display. So what happens when we control the frame? This event is our attempt to take back objectification. We are placing ourself on display. If gender is a performance, this is ours.

Will there be nudity?
