Despite being repeatedly surprised by unexpected change and public debate, mainstream international relations scholarship continue to assume that the world is governed by calculable risk based on estimates of power. Protean power highlights and challenges this assumption by arguing for the acknowledgment of uncertainty as an important condition of political and social life.
