Bring your class to Common Good for a unique opportunity to see an urban farm in action!
Field trip topics include: plant needs, composting, vegetable harvesting, insects and pollinators, food justice and nutrition. Field trips can be tailored to specific class requests and the material covered meets DCPS standards. Students are engaged in physical activity on the farm in order to reinforce learning. Tasks and activities will differ for different age groups.
Field trips are 1.5 hours long and are held from April to early November. Preferred timing is 9:30-11 am but there are other options (select your time during the registration check out).
We can accommodate a maximum of 25 students per field trip. For a larger group, or to bring 2 classes on the same day, we offer a split field trip option where 1 group will be on the farm and the other group will be in the adjacent park playground with school chaperones and then they will switch.
In order to cover the cost of staff, materials and upkeep on the farm, schools are charged a fee for field trips on the farm.
Fees are based on the percentage of students eligible for Free or Reduced Price meals (FRP):
50-100% of students eligible for FRP= $100.00 per field trip
0-50% of students eligible for FRP = $200.00 per field trip
Split field trips (2 classes in one slot) cost:
50-100% of students eligible for FRP= $125.00 per field trip
0-50% of students eligible for FRP = $250.00 per field trip
A deposit of $50.00 is required in order to reserve your date and full payment is due in advance of your visit.
Schools are responsible for arranging their own transport to the farm, which is accessible via Metro and several Metro bus routes.
