Gender-based stereotypes and sexism are still rampant in the U.S. – and around the world – today, limiting girls' and women's equal access to rights and opportunities. Harmful ideas about masculinity not only negatively affect women and girls, and society as a whole, but they can also have negative impacts on the health and well-being of boys and men themselves.
"The Mask You Live In" follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America's narrow definition of masculinity. Research shows that compared to girls, boys in the U.S. are more likely to be diagnosed with a behavior disorder, prescribed stimulant medications, fail out of school, binge drink, commit a violent crime, and/or take their own lives. Join us to discuss how redefining what it means to be a man can have benefits for all of us.
