M12’s Lone Prairie is an experiential installation that presents video and sound field recordings captured on the High Plains of Eastern Colorado over the last year. The 6-channel sound and video installation will explore the spatial atmosphere surrounding The Last Chance Module Array, a land work created in 2015-16 in a former agricultural field. This work is much like a ghost structure - something akin to what Robert Smithson referred to as a “ruin in reverse.” The forms are reminiscent of rural timber frame structures and pole barns - the array could have just been built or have been on the land slowly disintegrating over decades.
M12 is an award-winning interdisciplinary group of artists, researchers, and writers based in Colorado. The ever-evolving collective creates context-based artworks, research projects and education initiatives. The studio is primarily known for projects that explore the aesthetics of rural cultures and landscapes. See current members of M12 here.
