Little Academy DC presents its Summer 2018 Course Catalog. Our second summer course is Piece of Work: A Renegade History of Art, taught by Jenny Dally.
What is art? Do you know it when you see it? Is there some universal quality that makes an object worthy of hanging in a museum? In this class we’ll interrogate the nature of art, as well as dive into some of art history’s juiciest scandals and under-rated figures. Called “a crash course in later Western art,” this class is the ideal beginner’s guide for people who want to challenge their conceptions of art, artist, and aesthetics. Through lecture, drinking games, and art-making we’ll debate the greats, expand our understanding, and maybe, just maybe, answer the question: “What is art?”
Jenny Dally is an art historian and museum professional. Her area of focus is 20th and 21st century modern art, although she is constantly distracted by movements outside of those bounds. She has worked in museums and galleries of all shapes and sizes and seeks to demonstrate the relevance of art to all by expanding the canon in her teaching, research, and bar-side rants. When not looking at pictures for a living, she is also an avid bread baker, a cheese and wine enthusiast, and part of the team behind Little Academy.
In addition to the course, your ticket includes one complimentary beverage and a course chapbook.
On Sunday nights during Little Academy, all other drinks at Reliable Tavern available at Happy Hour prices.
